The strange non-fiction of a 7-year-old trapped inside the body of a 20-year-old Oberlin College Sosh and English major.(AKA Lexie Sharabianlou)

Last night I made salmorejo with my madre. It was an exciting process.

I realized I didn’t get to upload these photos of Stephanie and me. We were both wearing dresses that day so it’s important that I have documented proof. I’m going to do my favorite few as posts by themselves and then a chunk of my less favorite ones. Hard-core-procrasti-blogging!

HEY LOOK FACES. These little baby faces are from the Alcazar. They’re carved into pillars asymmetrically and no one knows why they’re there…

Orientation and other goofery

Text

After three days of orientation with great Spanish student guides (as in students of Spain), fantastic new friends and lots of silliness, I’m now on my 3rd-to-last pair of socks in my SPANISH APARTMENT. Okay it’s not mine but it’s still wonderful. My host mother, Elena, is a really friendly lady who feeds whenever I want and sometimes when I don’t want. Her and her husband, Antonio, have had exchange students living in their house for years. She fixed up this lovely room for me (pictures to come) which is right next to the front door and right across from the bathroom. Basically the best place in the house for a student who stayed up until 3am last night at multiple bars and didn’t want to wake anybody up (who? me?). So stealthy.

The intensive week of classes has started here and my first test is tomorrow. In Spain, the grading system is on a 10-point scale. However, in Spain, a B is considered as fantastic as an A, a C as good as an A-, and A’s are like Sasquatch. Of course I will be studying hard even though all of my grades transfer as Pass/No Pass, I don’t want to feel like an idiot. Or be one for that matter.

To help ensure non-idiot status, my schedule consists of really really fun things:

Mondays and Wednesdays:

9-11am Grammar Classes with CIEE

(translation: how not to write Spanish like a lobotomized monkey)

11-1pm Spanish Contemporary Films at the University

(translation: Watch movies for two hours and learn all the Spanish curse words from the PG-13 movies)

3-5pm Spanish Literature and Cuisine

(translation: Read stuff about food and then make the stuff you’re reading about and then eat the stuff)

Tuesdays:

11am-1pm Language and Conversation

(translation: how not to speak Spanish like a lobotomized monkey)

3-5pm Living and Learning in Seville

(translation: talk about how great living in Seville is and get ideas on how you can do even cooler stuff)

Thursdays:

11am-1pm Language and Conversation

(translation: how not to speak Spanish like a lobotomized monkey who’s drooling for the three-day weekend to start)

While my Mondays and Wednesdays will be rough, they will be filled with fun and hopefully easy classes. My Tuesdays will be relaxing because I have a late class and my Thursdays will just be parties starting at 1:01pm. Oh, that’s right. Did I mention no school on Fridays? Maybe I should say it again:

NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAYS!!!

I’m also planning on auditing a class at the University depending on the course load but I think it’ll be easy enough.

Now time for procrastination through uploading photos! YAY!
